Stay with Apple if…
You want built-in dictation without another app, and its output and controls already suit your day. It’s a sensible first thing to try.
Try Mouthtype if…
You want a dedicated hold-and-release workflow, explicit cleanup choices and a small recording pill you can make your own. You’re comfortable testing an early Mac app.
Know what you’re trying.
Mouthtype 0.4.0 is a stable release. Recognition, names and insertion into individual apps can need correction. This isn’t a claim that it’s more accurate or faster than Apple Dictation. The Mac app includes per-app tone and a Settings window. Wider compatibility and fresh-install testing are still in progress.
